Lightning L-Drago
Upper
Blade: Lightning L-Drago Upper
Weight: 33g (LOW END)- 34g (HIGH END)
Design: Lightning L-Drago is a reverse rotating counter-clockwise blade in Beyblade X that has 3 sloped areas that can deliver upper attack.
Attack vs. Attack (AVA): Lightning L-Drago will only succeed in an AVA matchup if launched with greater strength than its opponent. If your launch is weaker, Lightning L-Drago will be outspun, resulting in a loss. When launched with the proper strength, Cobalt Dragoon can compete decently with top contenders like Dran Buster and Phoenix Wing, though most matches depend on whether L-Drago can equalize near the end to outspin.
Attack vs. Defense/Stamina: Lightning L-Drago can only win if launched with significant force. A strong launch can lead to an upper attack that may result in either an Xtreme Finish or Over Finish.
Strengths:
Strong Smash Attack/Upper Attack: Despite being lighter than most attackers, L-Drago can effectively lift strong opponents and knock them out of the arena.
Weaknesses:
Imbalance: Lightning L-Drago suffers from a significant flaw due to a design decision made by Takara Tomy, where hollowed-out sections in both of its modes make the Blade extremely unstable. This instability leads to unpredictable behavior in the stadium, causing L-Drago to shake violently and move erratically. As a result, it often lacks consistency in battle. This can lead to self-KOs or Self Xtremes, but in some cases, the instability might disrupt your opponent's performance instead.
Launch Power: Lightning L-Drago requires mastery of a string launcher and consistently powerful shoots, making it difficult to unleash its full potential reliably.
Equalization: Lightning L-Drago cannot effectively spin equalize due to its hollowed-out sections. Attempting to equalize in battle will likely result in failure. It’s crucial to treat Lightning L-Drago as if it’s in the same spin direction as your opponent and launch as strongly as possible to avoid losing.
Gameplan: In setups with a low height and an aggressive bit that can gain speed, like Cyclone or Point, execute a hard launch and aim to defeat your opponent quickly. In an Attack vs. Attack matchup, perform a tilt launch, and against stamina types, execute a hard flat launch.
Combos:
Attack: Lightning L-Drago 5-60 / 9-60 / 3-60 / 7-60 F/GF/LF
Overall
Lightning L-Drago has strong attack potential and some equalization abilities, but the blade is nerfed due to its design imbalance. Being partially hollow causes significant shaking, making L-Drago unstable and inconsistent. While it can achieve incredible highs in battle, it also has notable lows if not optimized completely. The key to L-Drago’s success lies in the strength of the launch. In Upper Mode, L-Drago excels at lifting opponents and knocking them out of the arena with either an Xtreme or Over Finish, though it performs slightly worse than Rapid Hit Mode for equalization. The 1-60 Ratchet is great for delivering powerful one-hit blows, and the Flat Bit is a solid choice for attack. To maximize performance, it's crucial to use a Ratchet and Bit that stabilize L-Drago as much as possible. L-Drago has decent KO usage and is good in AVA where it can equalize against their opponents typically but it requires a strong shoot. Until a Left Winder is released to aid in its usability, L-Drago remains a solid addition to any collection but isn’t an absolute must-have, even though its potential is great. The blade's success depends heavily on a strong and consistent launch.
